Unico layoffs and AI

Unico, a Brazilian identity-verification company, said on 29 October 2026 that it is cutting 25% of its staff worldwide, about 175 of roughly 700 people by Bloomberg Línea's count, as it launches a single global product, and that it will offer severance packages, extended benefits and help finding new work. Its Latin America chief executive, Luis Felipe Monteiro, told Bloomberg Línea that the efficiency from simplifying the product and the productivity gained from AI, which he said has made its engineering team four times as productive, made this the right moment to shrink the company. AI is one of the reasons he gives, next to the simpler product and the merging of technologies from its acquisitions, and the number of jobs is the newspaper's calculation from the company's percentage, not a figure Unico gave, so it is not counted. Unico has not said which teams or countries the cut falls in.
