What we are
Independent
An observatory, not an advocate
We are an independent observatory measuring AI's impact on US jobs. We do not lobby for a policy or a worldview. We publish a number and the evidence behind it, and we let readers draw their own conclusions.
Open
Built only on free, open data
Every input is a source anyone can verify: public filings, on-record company statements, named reporting, and free government labor data. Nothing in the index depends on a private dataset you cannot check yourself.
Neutral
Measurement over narrative
We care about what the data supports, not which story wins the day. The method is fixed in advance and applied the same way to every event, whether it confirms a fear or deflates one.
How we stay honest
Honesty is not a tone, it is a set of rules we hold ourselves to on every event and every update.
Said is not caused
An employer naming AI is a claim, not proof. We record who made the claim and grade how strong the evidence is, so a press release never counts the same as a verified disclosure.
Only free and open sources
Every number links to a source anyone can open without a paywall or a subscription: regulatory filings, company statements, public labor data, and news reports that are free to read. A subscriber-only article can sit beside one as extra corroboration, never in its place.
Show the uncertainty
We publish a confidence band, not a false-precision point. When the evidence is thin, the number says so out loud instead of pretending to know.
Correct in public
When we get something wrong, we fix it in the open and leave a trail. A revised event is visible as a revision, never quietly deleted.
Report the signal at its true size
Neither inflated for a headline nor dismissed for comfort. If the measurable impact is small, we say small. If it is large, we say large.
How this is funded
The public index, the full event register, and the open JSON API are free and stay free. They are the record, and a record behind a paywall is not a record. The project carries no advertising and has no sponsors. It sells two things: layoff alerts for teams, and a data license for organizations that build on the data. Neither changes what is public. Its pages also point readers who may lose a job to paid AI and robot training work on AITraining.jobs and RobotTraining.jobs, two job boards run by the same owner, and say so wherever they do.
Support the work
If the index is useful to you, cite it with a link whenever you use a figure, so your readers can check it. Organizations that build on the data can license it under written terms, from $99 a month, with custom extracts of the register and of the US WARN notices, and a note of what changed at each update.
Use the data
The index is built to be cited. Journalists, researchers, and analysts are welcome to quote the number, the change, and the underlying events, with attribution.
Open API
/api/index
The current index value, confidence band, and trend as machine-readable JSON. Free to read and stable to build on.
Provenance
Every source
The full list of inputs feeding the index, each one a source you can open and check for yourself.
Method
How it is built
The event spine, the evidence tiers, the three weighted components, and exactly where the uncertainty lives.
Get the measurement, not a take.
When the index updates, you get the number, the change, and the most significant new events, each linked to its source. No spam, no opinion. Unsubscribe anytime.
