The record stays free and open
This is a research observatory, not a paywall around the numbers. Everything published, the index, every event with its source, the API, the CSV and the MCP server, is free and will stay free. A license adds written terms and work done for you, never access to the record.
Questions
Do I need to pay to use the data?
No. The index, the register, the JSON API, the CSV download and the MCP server are free to use, including commercially, as long as you credit the AI Layoffs Index and, for a specific figure, its linked source. The full terms are on the license page.
What are layoff alerts?
Layoff alerts email your team every new US WARN notice and every job cut the register records worldwide, linked to AI or not, filtered by country, US state, size and AI, daily or weekly. 14 days free, then $29 a month. They are for teams whose work starts when a company cuts jobs: outplacement, reskilling, recruiting, newsrooms and analysts.
What does a data license add?
Organizations that build on the data can license it under written terms, from $99 a month, with custom extracts of the register and of the US WARN notices, and a note of what changed at each update. It never changes what is public: everything in the register stays open to everyone.
Can I cite the index in an article or paper?
Yes. Cite the reading with its band, its date and the methodology version, so readers can check it. The license page shows the format.
How accurate are the numbers?
Every event is graded by evidence tier and shown with a confidence band. We publish the uncertainty rather than hide it. The methodology page documents exactly how each figure is sourced and weighted.
