Nubank layoffs and AI

Os desligamentos aconteceram na terça-feira (03/11), em meio a uma reestruturação do setor." (Translation: Nubank laid off about 30 employees from the team responsible for investigating reports of financial fraud, after automating part of the activities with artificial intelligence. The dismissals took place on Tuesday (3 November), amid a restructuring of the department.) The same report, citing Folha de S.Paulo: "Segundo funcionários e ex-funcionários, a adoção de IA reduziu em 80% a fila de reclamações sobre golpes financeiros nos últimos seis meses." (Translation: According to employees and former employees, the adoption of AI cut the queue of complaints about financial scams by 80% over the last six months.) Nubank, in a statement to Tecnoblog: "reestruturação de uma parte de uma área administrativa levou ao remanejamento interno de profissionais e ao encerramento de algumas posições" (Translation: the restructuring of part of an administrative area led to the internal reassignment of staff and the closing of some positions). The bank's statement does not mention AI.

Nubank, the Brazilian digital bank, let go of a little over 30 people from its team investigating complaints of financial fraud on 3 November 2026, Folha de S.Paulo reported on 5 November; about 40 others from the team had already been moved to other areas. Citing current and former staff, Folha reported that AI tools brought in about six months earlier took over simpler cases and cut the backlog of fraud complaints by 80%, and Tecnoblog and BPMoney reported in their own words that the bank made the cut after automating part of the team's work with AI. Nubank said the restructuring of part of an administrative area led to staff being moved internally and some positions being closed, offered severance and extended health cover, and said it keeps hiring at its normal pace; it did not mention AI, so the link to AI comes from the reporting (Blamed). The number is the press's, not the bank's, so it is not counted, and Nubank has not said how many people left or how large the team was.
