Not linked to AISynopsys approved a restructuring that will cut about 10% of its workforce, most of it in its 2026 fiscal year and all of it by the end of fiscal 2027; in August 2026 it raised the plan's expected cost to between $425 million and $500 million, mostly severance.
The reason Synopsys gave
"This restructuring will allow Synopsys to invest in key growth opportunities and drive business efficiencies following the completion of its acquisition of ANSYS, Inc." ... "Synopsys expects a majority of the workforce reductions in fiscal year 2026 and to substantially complete the Restructuring Plan by the end of fiscal year 2027, subject to local law and consultation requirements."Synopsys, in its Form 8-K of 12 November 2025
The filing and its August 2026 update do not mention AI. Synopsys speaks of AI as what drives demand for its chip design products, not as a reason for the cuts, and no report read tied the cuts to AI. The "2,000 jobs after the Ansys deal" stories still circulating are this November 2025 plan, not a new one.
